Linaker Schemes

Linaker has been providing insurance broking services to businesses throughout the UK since Nugent Linaker established the company in 1937, in the Midlands.

With offices in Westbury-on-Trym and Plymouth, Linaker now supports clients throughout the UK and Europe.

Initially a fleet and haulage insurance specialist, the service portfolio has expanded greatly, as Managing Director, Mike Livings explains: “We have broadened our outlook greatly since the 1960s. We have diversified from our foundations in fleet and haulage over the course of the last fifteen years into more commercial and more specialist areas. Now the company has its own specialists dealing with prestige homes, flats, timber and marine products, as well as general insurance.”

The company’s growth and continued success has been considerable in a time that has seen a great deal of change for the company. Chris Mitchell, Linaker Group Chairman, pays credit to the company’s loyal and dedicated staff, who are now dealing with the second and even third generations within client companies. He comments: “There can be no doubt that we have benefited from a very loyal base of staff over the years. Our staff retention is particularly high. I’m enormously proud that we will soon be celebrating one member’s thirty fifth year with Linaker. All the Directors have been with the company for more than ten years. This has given us the edge over our competitors - clients look for consistent solid contact from their insurance provider and can feel unsettled by year on year changes.”

But the strength of age and maturity belies Linaker’s dedication to the effective use of emerging technologies and a sharp eye for attracting new and young talent to the business.

Chris Mitchell adds: “We certainly have the experience and stability, but we have our eyes firmly on the future. We need to adapt our business to ensure Linaker is ready to tackle the future requirements of its client base.”

Linaker is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority and a member of the British Insurance Brokers Association.
